Daytime wetting
Daytime wetting, a harmless problem
Most children are potty-trained when they are around 4-5 years old, both during the day and at night. But just as some children still struggle with bedwetting at night, there is also a small group of (often) 4- to 7-year-olds who still have accindents during the day. Recognisable? Fortunately, the cause of daytime wetting is usually harmless and you can do something about it. Rodger offers convenient daytime potty training products, such as the Amigo wearable daytime alarm, with which your child may be rid of itself of daytime wetting within just a few weeks!
Causes of daytime wetting
As they get older, most children become potty-trained naturally. A factor in this is that a child no longer wants to wear a diaper and/or does not want wet clothes. In other words, they are motivated to become potty-trained. After all, they are big by now! This usually starts from around 2-3 years of age. Often, this leads to them being toilet trained quite quickly, but sometimes a child just doesn’t manage to hold back its urine and/or go to the toilet on time.
Is this the case with your child? Don’t get angry! Daytime wetting is normal at an early age. Especially when your child is still in the process to become potty-trained, accidents happen regularly. And that’s not a bad thing! Because let’s face it; your child (at least most of the time) doesn’t do it on purpose! But what are common causes of daytime wetting?
- Play enuresis: peeing their pants while playing. If your child is completely engrossed in their play, they may miss the signals from the bladder being full and thus forget to urinate.
- Is your child just starting primary school? Sometimes it is simply (temporarily) too tired to notice the urge to urinate. Of course, all those new impressions are no mean feat either.
- Your child may not take enough time to urinate properly. Because the bladder is not yet completely empty when they finish, the likelihood of pants-wetting increases.
- Being afraid of a (strange) toilet or finding them dirty. Some children do not like peeing on a strange toilet. There are also children who find the toilet at school too dirty and therefore hold their urine during school hours.
- Drinking too little. This often results in a less obvious urge to urinate.
- A medical cause.. Although the chances are slim, there may still be a physical cause for the potty training being succesful. For example, constipation or a bladder or urinary tract abnormality. Watch out for symptoms such as droplets throughout the day, urinating more than 8 times or less than 3 times a day, pain during urination or blood in urine, inability to hold it, a weak stream, etc. Do you recognise any of these symptoms? Then visit your GP first!
- Your child may also just not see datyime-wetting as a problem.
Daytime wetting solutions
Of course, it’s no fun for your child when they wet their clothes, especially as they get older. Even though children usually cannot help it, they are often ashamed of it. Or worse, they get bullied by classmates or sports buddies. And of course, no one wants that! Fortunately, Rodger offers help to get rid of the daytime wetting problem. The Amigo wearable daytime alarm and our Comfy absorbent underwear are lifesavers here!
Amigo daytime alarm
The Amigo portable daytime alarm gives your child that extra boost it needs to stay dry during the day. Thanks to a low key signal, children know exactly when an accident occurs. Ideal!
The Amigo is a small, portable wetting alarm with a magnetic clip. It is used for incontinence problems that occur during the day. The alarm system is attached to clothing with the magnetic clip. The cable of the Amigo Button is attached on the snaps of a Rodger sensor brief. The Amigo Wireless is connected to a transmitter that is paired with the alarm and clicked onto the Rodger sensor briefs.
Just a few drops of urine sends a signal to the Amigo alarm, notifying your child (via sound or vibration) that they need to go to the toilet. This is how you train your child to recognize the signal of a full bladder. This goes faster than you think, often we see that within a few weeks your child’s pants-wetting problem is history!
The Amigo portable daytime alarm consists of:
– Amigo portable pee alarm
– Amigo stickers
– Instruction manual
– Pee calendar
– Sticker sheet (rewarding is recommended!)
The matching sensor briefs come in various colors for boys and girls. They are indistinguishable from normal underwear. So your child has nothing to be ashamed of!
